If I remember correctly (will need to wait for confirmation from Steve (the keeper of all infalliable information(even though he couldn't tell his Dad from his Mom))... the top two cars were mine, while the bottom two cars were Steve's. The red car though had lost its roof at some point early on. Either from an unfortunate accident or attempt at modification. Steve, do you have the story of the missing top? Anything interesting about the story? The red car on the site where I "stole" the pictures was for sale for $45. Thankfully they were not so expensive back in the ol' Bob's Hobby Shop days in Hartford. All told Steve and I probably had close to twenty cars. Switching bodies onto different chassis that were in better shape. Taking the "guts" of the cars apart, cleaning the brushes and other various parts, trying not to lose the itty bitty springs. Very fun stuff! Nothing like having toys that require maintenance.
Ah yes, Steve of Infalliable Memory. I'm walking down the steps to the basement, seeking my memories of AFX slot car racing. I'm almost at the memory....no, that's just the Little Debbie(tm) cake that is slowly rotting in a multi-year science experiment. I'm pushing that aside, although I keep getting tripped up by other memories of broken ping-pong paddles. Whoever broke them needs to learn a little self-control. It's just a game after all! Yes, here it is, the volume of slot car racing memories, right where I left it next to the World Book 1975 Year Book. I'll blow the dust off it and see what I find. Tim was correct, the top two cars were his cars. The lower left car was mine. There's something here in the memory that this was some sort of advanced model, though the details of what made it advanced are lost to time (probably because of neuron losses due to wine consumption). The bottom right car did in fact lose its top. It was also painted in some sort of weird silver color. Was it my car....reading....no, it was Eric Sell's car. It arrived at its interesting configuration due to a misguided attempt at customization. P.S. I meant to type "Ruth E.".
There has been an AFX car that I have been racking my brain trying to remember the Nascar driver's name that I believe Steve had. It was always a favorite of mine. I finally figured it out: The driver was David Pearson and he drove #21 (Mercury) car. Steve, do you remember such a car? I haven't been successful yet in finding the AFX version of such a car.
