Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Steve!!

Anybody have any humorous / funny stories that they would care to share on Steve's birthday?

Chapel of Love

Tristan, my cousin, is getting married on October 9th on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan. Should be a great time!!

Not that I need anything else to remind me of my age, but Tristan was the first person that I was a paid baby sitter for. Spending time with her and Meg, allowed me to purchase a 10 speed bike.

Sam's Birthday

Samantha was born today. Birthdays were always very important to her. I am very glad that she was able to spend her birthday last year at Disney Land.

I wish that I could have been there with her.

A video of Train's song When I Look To The Sky says a lot about my life with her and my feelings.

Here is a MP3 version of the song: When I Look To The Sky

Cholesterol Update

Just got the results of my 3 month followup cholesterol checkup:

Modifiying my diet and exercising at least 3 times a week has allowed me to lose 10 lbs in the 3 months.

Initial cholesterol results:
Total cholesterol: 259
LDL (bad cholesterol): 150
HDL (good cholesterol): 36

Current cholesterol results:
Total cholesterol: 148
LDL (bad cholesterol): 87
HDL (good cholesterol): 40

LDL should be below 100 and HDL should be above 40. Things are going great on the cholesterol front. Will need to have it checked again in 3 months.

15 years in November

This November, it will be 15 years since I graduated from Michigan Tech in Houghton Michgan.

Hard to believe it has been that long...

Here is a slide show timelapse of the Portage Lift Bridge in Houghton over a period of one year. It gives a good perspective on the beauty (and snow of the area).

I recommend setting the delay to 1 sec.

Enjoy:Portage Lift Bride Timelapse

Be sure to check out the Wallpaper of the Week as well.

Interesting Stats

I have recently cleared out the log files that my web server generates as of June 28th. Therefore all of the data that is being tracked is roughly two weeks old.

The most interesting information is Search Engine Phrases that are used to find the site. So far all of the referrals via a search engine are from Yahoo.

The Everett Family Blog has been reached via Yahoo referrals twelve times.

The breakdown of search phrases (not the exact phrasing, but just a generalization):

4 - Batman Deadend
4 - United States Thunderbird ejection pictures
3 - Cemac Bank (scam emails that I posted about)

and the most interesting and funny search phrase (and the exact phrase used):

"louis vuitton bag from last episode of friends"

I Have Golf Clubs

I have finally made the move and purchased a set of golf clubs.

Back Home Again

Last Wednesday, I had to fly to Stamford CT for work. I got home last night around 9:30 pm.

This was the first trip that I flew into John F. Kennedy International Airport . Stamford is roughly 40 miles from the airport so it isn't too bad of a drive.

I am always impressed by the sheer size of the Empire State Building. Not just how tall it is, but also how massive it is. It does truly stand out in the NYC skyline. I can only imagine what the World Trade Center Towers would have looked like.

The drive to Stamford also took me by the location of the New York 1964 World's Fair. The location at the end of Men in Black movie. The Unisphere and the New York State Pavilion were easily viewable from the highway.

Driving by the location was also interesting because on this trip I read the book "Devil in the White City". An interesting book on the events of the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.

I wished I would have read the book prior to my last visit to Chicago. The Hyperion User Conference party was held at the Museum of Science and Industry. A building from the fair that was essentially rebuilt to be a permanent structure. I would have liked to have seen the lagoons and the wooded island that Frederick Olmstead fought for.

Small California sidebar: Frederick Olmstead also designed Stanford University.

Knock on Wood

The site has been up and running for roughly 24 hours...

I hope I am not jinxing myself, considering I have done absolutely nothing to solve the problem of the site becoming unresponsive.

Great Song (and most recent album purchase)

The reason I purchased the album was for the song "Fields of Gray"

When the night lies so still
Before I go to sleep
I come by, I come by
Just to look at you
In the dim light I say
That in my own small way
I will try, I will try
To help you through

There'll be blue skies falling
There'll be sad scenes and bad dreams
In a world so uncertain
Through the clouds it's hard to see
I will grab you and lift you
As you hold on tight and sway
We'll go walking
Across the fields of gray

There's a place I can go
When the world gets me down
When nothing, when nothing
Goes quite right it seems
As I look there I know
Fortune smiles on me so
But who knows, no one knows
About tomorrow

There'll be blue skies falling
There'll be sad scenes and bad dreams
In a world so uncertain
Through the clouds it's hard to see
I will grab you and lift you
As you hold on tight and sway
We'll go walking
Across the fields of gray

When I was younger I saw things in black and white
Now all I see is a sad, hazy gray
Sometimes I see a narrow flash of light
Sometimes I look and you show me the way

No matter what else happens
What the future will be
In a world so uncertain
Through the clouds it's hard to see
I will grab you and carry you
Calm your fears if you're afraid
We'll go walking
Across the fields of gray

A version of the song, Fields of Gray from a live concert of Bruce Hornsby.

Movie Review (Fahrenheit 9/11) via Sandy

Received via an email from Sandy

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi...I've been discussing Dem. politics, Kerry and Moore's movie with several of you the past few weeks. If you might be interested in another take on it. I think both Republicans and Democrats should see it. Both sides may be surprised. I know I was. He took on the Dems. in many scenes, also. See it and make up your own mind--not what rumor, your church or your friendly politician might say.

Moore supported Nadar four years ago with money and his "celebrity" status, not Gore, not the Dems.

He clearly states on all news shows that he doesn't like Bush. BUT, in this movie he gives reasons why--all reasons substantiated from Bush's own speeches, his top advisor's speeches, the network news, both Fox and CNN, and published books and the nation's top newspapers. Even newspaper columnists who don't like him or the movie, have carried positive comments in their columns on the movie. He carries the actual broadcasts, with permission of all the networks.

Despite what you may have heard, Moore takes potshots to the Democrats too in several scenes.

He hires three independent, nonpartisan fact checkers and an attorney before he puts his movies out. One of the news shows carried this information. Data from aired tv news programs have cited attribution of his facts from normal journalist national newspapers of award winning, high quality standards. New York Times, Washington Post, etc. and from books and authors who have covered the events.

He takes time to let many people speak for themselves, both for Bush and against. It is funny at times, poignant at times, sad at times. I hope you will see it.
